These Valentines Day Marshmallow Wands are so easy to make and so very delicious. They are an amazingly beautiful Valentine's Day treat to make for your family.

Ingredients

  • 24 Marshmallows (Regular Size)
  • 1 cup Ghirardelli Chocolate Melting Wafers or Chocolate Chips
  • 15 Red Candy Melts
  • 15 Pink Candy Melts
  • 15 White Candy Melts
  • Valentine's Day sprinkles
  • Valentines' Mix M&M's
  • Lollipop Sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marshmallows before melting the chocolate. Marshmallows are like snowflakes … no two are the same, so you want to make sure you have like ones together. We sort through the bag of marshmallows and match them up in sets of threes.
  2. Place the first marshmallow on the lollipop stick.
  3. Add the second marshmallow, and adjust them on the lollipop stick.
  4. Add the third marshmallow but only press the marshmallow halfway down onto the stick.  You do not want the stick to come out the top of the third marshmallow or the marshmallow will dry out.
  5. Place the 1/2 cup of melting wafters on a microwave-safe dish or paper plate. (This amount of chocolate should be enough to cover four Marshmallow Pops.)
  6. Microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds, check it and give it a stir.
  7. Continue to microwave the chocolate, 10 seconds at a time, Alternating between heating and stirring.
  8. Once the chocolate is almost completely melted, give it a final stir to make sure it is completely smooth.
  9. Roll the marshmallows on the stick in the melted chocolate.
  10. If you have problems rolling the marshmallows in the chocolate, have a spoon handy and you can spoon the chocolate over the marshmallows and smooth out the chocolate on the marshmallows.
  11. Don’t forget to dip the top of the marshmallow into chocolate.
  12. Once the marshmallow pop is completely covered with chocolate, lightly tap the stick on the edge of the plate to get the excess chocolate off.  Give it a once over to make sure it is all covered and place it on a piece of parchment paper.  This will leave a “flat side” on the marshmallow, so if you want it rounded on all sides you will have to let them dry standing up and for that, you will need a form brick to put the sticks into.
  13. You can use candy melts to decorate the Marshmallow Pops. Candy melts can be found in the Cake Decorating section in most Craft Supply stores, Amazon, and Walmart. We used Red, White, Light Pink, and Dark Pink.
  14. While the chocolate on the marshmallow pops is drying, melt 15-20  each of different colored candy melts in individual Ziploc bags in the microwave.  Microwave them in 20-second intervals, massage the baggies to make sure the candy melt mixture is melting, and then microwave again if needed.
  15. Once melted, cut the tip off the bag and drizzle the first color of candy melt over the marshmallow pop.
  16. Alternating colors, drizzle the rest of the melted candy over the Valentine's Marshmallow Pops.
  17. Allow the marshmallow pops to harden completely before serving.
  18. Optional decorating ideas: while chocolate is still warm sprinkle the Marshmallow Pops with sprinkles or Valentine's M&M's.
  19. Allow the drizzle on the Marshmallow Pops to harden before storing in an air-tight container.

Notes

We have tried both melting chocolate and chocolate chips to coat the marshmallows and found the melting chocolate much easier to use.  It melted into a thinner consistency so covering the marshmallows was easier.  The chocolate chips were a little clumpy and made a much thicker coating of chocolate.  As for taste, there was no difference.  They were both delicious.

Candy melts can be found in the Cake Decorating section in most Craft Supply stores, Amazon, and Walmart. We used Red, White and Pink.

It is best to work with 1/2 cup of chocolate melting wafers at a time otherwise the melted chocolate will start to harden and it is too hard to cover the marshmallows.

Marshmallow Pops will last for a couple of weeks if you store them in an airtight container. And there is no need to keep them in the refrigerator, in fact, the chocolate might discolor if you do store them in the refrigerator.
