Ombre Rice Krispie Cake
We made a purple ombre cake made out of Rice Krispie Treats. This Ombre Rice Krispie Cake is fun and unique way to wow your guests with a yummy and pretty dessert.
This year for Mother’s Day we wanted to do a fun and pretty dessert that, if you are a Mom and have to make your own dessert (Sad face!), would be easy. This Ombre Rice Krispie Cake is all those things plus delicious.
The base for our Ombre Rice Krispie Cake is our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe which we have adjusted and perfected over the years until it is now absolutely the best Rice Krispie Treat recipe we have ever tasted.  You can find all the directions you’ll need to make these delicious treats right here.
You need to make four batches of Rice Krispie Treat mixture in four different shades – we used shades of purple for this Ombre Rice Krispie Cake. For detailed instructions on how to make the Rice Krispie Treat mixture, check out our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe.  I added the food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture BEFORE adding the Rice Krispie Cereal.  We used the Pink and Blue food coloring from the Wilton Color Right Food Coloring system in the following amounts to make the different shades of purple:
Top Layer
1 1/2 Cup of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (1 .5 Tbsp. Butter/1.5 Cups Marshmallows/1.5 Cups Cereal)
No Food Coloring
Light Purple Layer
3 cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (3 Tbsp. Butter/3 Cups Marshmallows/3 Cups Cereal)
2 drops of Pink Food Coloring/1 drop of Blue Food Coloring
Medium Purple Layer
4 cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (4 Tbsp. Butter/4 Cups Marshmallows/4 Cups Cereal)
4Â drops of Pink Food Coloring/2 drops of Blue Food Coloring
Dark Purple Layer
4 cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (4 Tbsp. Butter/4 Cups Marshmallows/4 Cups Cereal)
8Â drops of Pink Food Coloring/4 drops of Blue Food Coloring
Make the different shades of Rice Krispie Treat mixture one at a time so they are still warm when you press the mixture into the bundt pan. Â Start with the lightest shade and spoon the mixture into the pan.
Press down the Rice Krispie Treat mixture into the pan so that the layer is even and flat.
Now make the other shades of the Rice Krispie Treat mixture and layer them into the bundt pan one at a time from lightest to darkest.
If you are not sure how the layers are looking, you can pop the cake out the pan and check it before you move on to the next layer. Once you’ve looked at it, pop the cake back into the pan and add another layer.
Add all four layers of the colored Rice Krispie Treat mixture. Easy peasy.
We wanted a little something special on the top of the Ombre Rice Krispie Cake so we created some purple candy drizzle with Wilton Candy Melts. Â We added pink and blue candy melts into a plastic bag and melted them in the microwave (about 40 seconds for us.) We used our hands to massage the two colors together to get a pretty purple shade.
We snipped off the corner of the plastic bag and then drizzled the purple candy melt mixture over the top part of the Ombre Rice Krispie Cake.
Here is our finished Ombre Rice Krispie Cake. Â It is so pretty on both the outside and the inside. And the Ombre effect is gorgeous, even prettier in real life.
Rice Krispie Treats are delicious and so versatile.  Why making a boring old square when you can turn them into this lovely Ombre Rice Krispie Cake?  This will be a fun and yummy treat for Mother’s day, a Sunday Brunch, a birthday party … or any day really!
