Grinch Rice Krispie Cake
A delicious surprise inside Grinch Rice Krispie Cake that will delight even your Grinchiest holiday guest.
One of our most popular Christmas Treats is our Grinch Popcorn. So this year we were thinking about what other kinds of Grinch-themed desserts you could serve at a How the Grinch Stole Christmas party and we immediately thought of Rice Krispie Treats, one of our all-time favorite treats. We were super happy with how this surprise-inside Grinch Rice Krispie Cake turned out – so happy that our hearts grew three sizes!!!
How to Make the Rice Krispie Treat Mixture
Step 1: The base for our Grinch Rice Krispie Cake is our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe which we have adjusted and perfected over the years until it is now absolutely the best Rice Krispie Treat recipe we have ever tasted. You can find all the directions you’ll need to make these delicious treats right here.
Step 2: You will need to make two batches of Rice Krispie Treat mixture in Red and Green. For detailed instructions on how to make the Rice Krispie Treat mixture, check out our Best Ever Rice Krispie Treat Recipe. I added the food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture BEFORE adding the Rice Krispie Cereal.
3 Cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (3 Tbsp. Butter/3 Cups Marshmallows/3 Cups Cereal)
4 Drops of Red Food Coloring
Step 3 Make up your second batch of Rice Krispie Treat mixture. Add the food coloring before the Rice Krispie Cereal. We used the Yellow and Blue food coloring from the Wilton Color Right Food Coloring system in the following amounts:
6 cups of Rice Krispie Treat mixture (6 Tbsp. Butter/6 Cups Marshmallows/6 Cups Cereal)
4 drops of Yellow Food Coloring/1 drops of Blue Food Coloring (Note: This is the combination I used to get this lovely Grinch Green color.)
Building the Cake
Step 4: Press the Red Rice Krispie Treat mixture into a Cookie Sheet.
Step 5: Once the Red Rice Krispie Treat mixture has cooled, use a small heart cookie cutter to cut out 20-25 Rice Krispie Treat hearts.
Step 6: Stack the Red Rice Krispie Treat hearts and set them aside for now. (Use the remaining Rice Krispie Treat remnants for the kid’s afternoon snack.)
Step 7: Lightly butter a 9×5-inch loaf pan. While the Green Rice Krispie Treat mixture is still warm, press some of the mixture into the loaf pan to about the 1″ mark.
Step 8: Build a row out of the Red Rice Krispie Treat Hearts that is the exact length of the loaf pan. Press some of the green Rice Krispie Treat mixture along the top of the heart “tube”. You want to fill in the space between the rounded top edges of the heart. Place the heart tube top-side down into the loaf pan. The bottom pointy part of the hearts should be pointing up.
Steps 9-10: Start filling in around the heart tube with the green Rice Krispie Treat mixture until it is completely covered and you have reached the top of the loaf pan.
Step 11: Allow the Rice Krispie Treat mixture to cool and then turn your Grinch Rice Krispie Cake out onto a cake plate. And there is the Grinch’s heart … grown at least three sizes!!!
Step 12: We wanted a little something special on the top of the Grinch Rice Krispie Cake so we created some red and white candy drizzle with Wilton Candy Melts. We the candy melts into separate plastic bags and melted them in the microwave (about 40 seconds for us.) Cut off a tiny corner of the plastic sandwich bags and then drizzle the melted candy mixture onto the top of the cake one color at a time. So pretty and so yummy! Everyone at your How the Grinch Stole Christmas Family movie night will want a slice.
